Finlaw Building, Salem landmark on 10 Most, is transforming!

February 8, 2009

Salem, NJ preservationist and PNJ Board member Janet Sheridan shares recent photos n1526281405_30178233_8907 of the landmark Finlaw Building in Salem, listed in the 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites in NJ in 2002.  A long, long story of abandonment, deterioration, collapse and then rebirth.

A new structure is under construction while the preserved historic facade is undergoing restoration. Paint removal has revealed beautiful historic stone and brick work. New adjacent construction  is compatibly designed, set back slightly, follows the rhythm and proportion of window openings, and is distinguished from the historic facade by a darker brick.
